Wyley King had settled In the Little Greenbrier section of the Smokies by 1830. It is safe to assume that it was here he brought his bride when he married in 1824, or soon thereafter.

Here in Little Greenbrier, in the heart of Tennessee. Great Smoky Mountains, Wyley King found a little cove near here Fighting Creek and Little River join boulder-tossed waters.; that he choose to build his. house that is as solid today as its yellow poplar logs first were chinked with red Mountain clay. It was here in this NE large.one room, with a six foot wide. fireplace, and a loft for the children that Wyley and Margaret raised their family and both lived until their death..
This homestead is in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The home and furniture today are being restored so Visitors may view it. This is the home where our Great-grandmother Nancy was raised and where she was married to George E. Houser.
Wyley by necessity was a blacksmith,cobbler,furniture maker and amateur doctor;as well as a farmer and hunter. He built his own wagon and the sleds used to haul wood out of the forest,mad his plow and harrows made or mended the family shoes,built every article of furniture used in the home,including looms and spinning wheels for the women.He also made cane mills and pea shellers,raised and cured the tobacco he smoked in his corn cob pipe,and knew all the simple remedies that could be compounded from wild mountain plants or garden grown herbs.
Wyley and Margaret's youngest daughter Margaret Jane, who married John Walker, also lived and raised her family in this home and four of their daughters (the "Walker Sisters") stayed on the home place until their deaths; the last in 1964.
